Special shows and Demoline at Productronica 2007
Live production line "Customized System in Package Solutions" at Productronica 2007 visualized manufacturing of flexible RFID components

The Live Demo-line at Productronica 2007 made things understandable instead of just describing them and demonstrated function and utility instead of merely explaining it. Special shows and live demonstrations of various manufacturing processes presented the current trends in electronics production.

The Live production line "Customized System in Package Solutions" visualized the manufacture of flexible RFID components. Four times a day, on the Demoline in Hall B5 on Stand B5.255 the Fraunhofer-Institut für Zuverlässigkeit und Mikrointegration (IZM) presented programmable RFID (radio-frequency identification) components, whose 3-dimensional antenna layout was specifically tuned to the space inside a ball-point pen in order to create maximum sensitivity. After installing the space-adapted electronics in the pen device, the device could be used to save the personal data of the respective trade show visitor using a radio signal.

The trade show visitors were able to follow the complex manufacturing process of the sensitive RFID transponders along a 15-metre production line.

Economic series production means that “space-adapted electronics? such as the flexible and compact RFID chip can be used for a very wide range of applications, either a contact-free access card, as piracy protection for branded products or as an intelligent wound dressing.

The demonstration line at Productronica 2007, from 13 to 16 November 2007, was being arranged by Messe München in collaboration with the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), special Productronic Division. The product and technology for the "shape-adapted electronics" was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM)
