First busbar system with "cULus-listed" approval
With its "RiLine60", Rittal is now the first manufacturer worldwide
with cULus-listed approval for a 60-mm busbar system. This means that
international manufacturers of machines and equipment who are targeting
the US and Canadian markets will find it much easier to design and
subsequently gain approval from the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and
CSA (Canadian Standards Association). This, in turn, will lead to
noticeable cost savings.
UL and CSA approbation of power distribution components is becoming increasingly important for internationally active switchgear manufacturers: Uniform application solutions are needed in accordance with IEC, UL and CSA, but without having to conduct complex and time-consuming engineering or elaborate test processes. Currently, all established, commercially available 60-mm busbar systems only have UL-recognised approval. Rittal is thus taking a giant step forward. Since July 2008, Rittal has been the first manufacturer worldwide with "cULus listed" approval for a 60-mm busbar system with its RiLine60.
There are major savings in time and in terms of testing and approval costs for manufacturers of machinery and switchgear, because there is a simpler and faster acceptance of units by the UL and CSA with "cULus-listed" approval. Tests for the adherence to the conditions of acceptability (COA) of all the UL-recognised components are no longer needed.
Separate (and thus expensive) UL-listing is therefore no longer necessary for switchgear -manufacturers. UL-listed switchgear manufacturers are no longer required to cover the costs of the file entry at UL for UL-recognised components. All information is found on the components or assembly instructions, so that the time-consuming reading of the COA is no longer needed. This ensures faster assembly and lower assembly costs.
"Field wiring" possible
However, plant constructors will not just make savings on first-time installations. For each system upgrade, any major changes or extensions have to be re-monitored by an UL Inspector on site. However, as all RiLine60 components with "cULus-listed" are approved for "field wiring", inspections of these units by UL will no be longer required in the event of plant extensions or repairs.
