“The roles played by China, India and Eastern Europe in the sector of electronics production.” Distinguished representatives from Atotech, Panasonic, Orbotech, Siemens and Tyco Electronics took part in this discussion.
The outcome of the discussion in front of the packed auditorium which reflected a very good international mix of visitors, was summed up by the host Sabine Beckmann as “the partial outsourcing of research and development to the new locations”, the “expansion of the infrastructure in China and – potentially at least, in the Indian subcontinent” as well as “the strict compliance with the high standards of environmental protection set by the West when building new production facilities in the Far East”.
For example, Asia offers high standards which makes it an attractive location for business, while China and India need the regional presence of the key players not just as production locations but also as sales markets. At the same time, however, countries in Eastern Europe are becoming more important thanks to their geographical and cultural proximity to western markets, increasing political stability and attractive production costs.
